New: Dear LeLe Girl (design)

February 24, 2010 Posted in News

dear lele girl design

I was walking in the woods feeling the pure and fresh air.
A little bird came to my shoulder and sang “Dear LeLe Girl.”
The usual walk became happier and more fun!

Dear LeLe Girl loves a handmade and contemporary country-side style.
She spends everyday wearing handmade clothes.
And she of course loves to shop at LeLe Junie Moon filled with “kawaii” handmade goods made with sincerity!

Her fashion is a natural dress with tunic.
The dress is natural bluish green, and there is a lace at the skirt as a trim.
The light beige fabric is used for the tunic, and there is a lovely bouquet embroidery on it.
A pink velvet ribbon is sew on the embroidery, just like to bind the flowers.
The tirolean ribbon on the shoulder as a strap and pink stitches are adding a cute accent to the natural looking tunic.

Her hair style is a red long wavy hair with bangs.
The lacy headband and flower pins dress her hair very nicely.
For shoes she chooses sabot and leg warmers.
Her make up is a saxe blue eye shadow with pink blush and lips.
Her face type is Radiance, and her skin type is Natural.

What kind of collector are you?

Posted in Muse & Media

Hello my readers! I am sorry that I have been MIA lately. I got slammed with some flu/cold/cough thing that just won’t go away and it’s just sucking the life right out of me. However, in my NyQuil induced state, I had a lot of time to stare at my dolly shelf and I realized some things.

As the days passed and I fell further and further behind on Oz’s 365, I realized that… I never should have started the 365 with 1 doll. It kind of killed the passion I originally had for Oz. I just completely burned myself out on the hobby doing it. I am in complete awe and envy for you girls who do such amazing 365 shots with your girls every day and you never seem to run out of creative or inspiring ideas. I know you are going to say that you do, but I really doubt you feel it in a way like I do or maybe some other girls who have attempted their 365 and failed.

It got me to thinking though.. seriously about the Blythe hobby and why I do it and how I feel about it. I honestly feel awkward having more than 5 dolls. And I realized to hold my interest, I like at least 2-3 of them to rotate out. I think the thrill of collecting for me is finding new dolls – And I do love finding someone to trade with. And even though I have seen certain dolls more than 1 time (MSR!) I’d still trade for her again just to see a new one.

Maybe this stems from my childhood. We moved a LOT and I wouldn’t say that toys got lost but more-so that my mom would have yard sales at least every 3 months and she always let me lay out a blanket of my own toys that I picked to sell and keep the money I made. I’d sell my stuff, then we’d go the next weekend to yard sales with my grandmother and I’d buy “new” toys with my money and repeat the process often enough that this is probably the thrill of the Blythe hobby for me.

I was a collector as a kid as I’m sure most of you were too. My 3 biggest collections that I remember collecting the longest were stickers, those 80′s plastic charms with the bells and My Little Ponies.

But like my Blythe hobby, I loved to trade, resell extras and get new ones in regularly. And I never had more than 1 collection of something at a time. I did hold on to about 20 MLPs that were always the same ones but they were a lot cheaper than Blythe and perhaps holding unto more than 5 Blythe does make me feel a little guilty too.

And speaking of guilt… Blythe is more of a personal and community hobby for me, for most of us I’m sure. And part of me feels guilty when I adopt a new girl from someone and then she arrives and a week later I’m ready to have her move on and look for a new one. This is especially stressful for me because my intention is not to offend anyone but I fear some may already have been offended by my doing this but it’s part of how I enjoy the hobby.

I also love photographing my girls but the 365 overwhelmed me. Doing it everyday or at least trying to keep up and incorporate into my life just didn’t work. So maybe this little break will help me renew wanting to Flickr my girls again.

I’ve also realized that I adore Re-Ment and miniatures. And taking pictures of them with and without Blythe girls and that it’s okay for me to do this. It’s okay for me to not include Blythe in every picture I take on my Flickr and it’s okay for me to collect more than 1 thing.

So, anyhow, I came to the conclusion that this is the kind of collector I am. I wonder if there are more of you like me or if I’m just a fruitcake? :)

I do so admire you girls that have 10, 20, even 30+ girls that you photograph regularly on Flickr or just have the space in your home to display them somewhere to inspire you or make you feel creative.

I’m not normally so public with personal stuff but I guess this post was kind of to let out all the thoughts that have been swirling in my head these past few days.

Reviewing: Cassiopeia Spice

February 10, 2010 Posted in Reviews

My “Cassiopeia Spice” finally arrived yesterday as I took the cheapest shipping method on my pre-order and she was well worth the wait. I was so happy with her that I immediately wanted to write a review on her.

I really feel like she is a great starter Blythe! Great for someone who isn’t sure about the hobby, or for someone who wants to get a friend, child or sibling into Blythe. Or for someone who wants to try and customize a Blythe.

Immediately out of the box I loved her hair. Although now a day later I can see that it needs washed as it’s a tad bit greasy in the back. But it’s very soft and a beautiful color. And for the brave, a pretty good color that might hold a dye. I’m pondering to try a purple dye on her or to try my first reroot!

Her stock is great! The dress is beautiful and vibrant and well-made. I personally love it. The orange blouse underneath is a great universal piece that will mix and match well. Not to mention she also comes with tights, that cute camera, hairpin and shoes. And don’t forget, she has earrings!

She isn’t “cheaply” made but her quality is a little different than other Blythe girls. I noticed mine had some weird blotches on her arms that look like puffy circles? Really odd but doesn’t bother me.

All in all, her price-tag is reasonable. Especially for those of us who don’t have Junie Moon somewhere close! :) Her price is reasonable, her stock is adorable and she’s simply:

A well rounded Blythe that will surely sweeten your dolly shelf.

Morganannie Follow-Up

February 3, 2010 Posted in News,Reviews

I’m sure you remember our Designer Spotlight on “Morganannie” about 3 weeks ago. Well, we just did a 10 question follow-up interview with her. Annnnd! This is your chance to win one of MA’s beautiful dresses! Read on to find out more!

Q1: Sooo Morgan! How do you feel about being awarded our very first Blythe Blog designer award?
MA: It was so thoughtful of you to select me as your first award recipient. Everyone knows you have great taste, April so I take it as a high compliment!

Q2: How long have you been a Blythe collector?
MA: I bought Mod Molly and Dainty Biscuit in March of 2008. So pretty soon it will have been 2 years!

Q3: How did you get into dolly dress-making?
MA: I’ve always loved sewing and quilting. I was really into paper-piecing quilts and I think that helped get me ready to sew such tiny items. Before my first Blythe arrived, I sewed a few things – some pants and a dress or two. I think my first sale came in April of ’08, only a month after I started collecting.

Q4: Do you remember the first dress you made for a doll?
MA: The first dress I made was a green a-line with colorful polka dots for my Mod Molly, Emory. It came out alright. My girls still wear it every once in a while. It could probably be hunted down in my photostream pretty easily.

Q5: Do you have a secret fabric stash you save for a rainy day or do you tend to use new fabrics right away?
MA: There are a few fabrics that I love so much that I don’t ever want to cut. Eventually, though I decide a dress is worth it. There is one fabric in particular that I have purchased again and again because I love it so much.

Q6: Do you require a mood when making your dresses or is it more based on your available time?
MA: As far as mood goes, as soon as I turn on Death Cab for Cutie, I am ready to sew. And as far as available time goes, I wish I had more!

Q7: Do you have a favorite dress you’ve made?
MA:  My favorite dresses are always the simplest ones. I wear a lot of plain clothes myself, so maybe that’s why. And yes, I’ve had a few “duds” too!

Q8: Do you have any plans to expand or change your shop or designs? Is there a direction you are planning to take your
creations?
MA: Every once in a while I’ll try a new design. Lately I’ve been experimenting with knit fabrics for Blythe – sweatshirts, sweatpants and the like. Hopefully soon I’ll be able to make these available on etsy.

Q9: Do you have any other craft hobbies?
MA: I’ll try anything! But I’ve been a crafter since childhood. I’m pretty good at knitting, crocheting and beading.

Q10: What advice would you give a new dolly dress maker?
MA: Ask your friends for help and advice if you need help along the way. There are TONS of dress makers out there and I know
that many of them are willing to help out with advice and questions along the way.

Thank you Morgan for a great interview!

And as if she wasn’t awesome enough for giving us her time, we conjured up a little Valentine’s Day contest together!

The complete details and entry information will be listed tomorrow afternoon. Until then, here’s a snap of the dress she made for the contest!

I’m guessing we’ll see you tomorrow, huh? ;)

Ask Oz: Choosing 365 Girl

Posted in Muse & Media

Hello blog readers! It’s Wednesday and time for another “Ask Oz” installment. I got some good questions last week and I do plan on answering every question submitted – so please send me more!

Tia (one of my favorite readers!) writes:

“I’m not sure which girl to choose for my 365. I have a new girl, but I’m sending my old(er) girl to have a spa treatment. Should I wait until I get her back from the spa?”

Well “my hot cup of Tia” – Choosing a 365 girl is a big deal. I mean, you are going to be taking a photo of her everyday. If you have to wait a little time to make sure she’s the girl for your 365 – do it. I know mum has tried her hand at 365 with at least 3 different girls (not including me) and even now sometimes it’s a drag to keep up.

The cool thing is, it doesn’t matter when you start in the year. So, take your time and choose your girl. Make sure it’s a girl you bond well with and like taking pictures of.

Good luck Tia! We can’t wait to see who you choose and how your adventure goes!

Thanks for writing!

You-”Tubesday” – NP

February 2, 2010 Posted in Muse & Media

What better way to start off our first You-”Tubesday” than with the newest Blythe short film about Nostalgic Pop?

I admit I have watched this one at least 15 times since they released it and each time I probably smile bigger. Enjoy!

Music Monday

February 1, 2010 Posted in Muse & Media

Our first Music Monday is to celebrate Oz’s 200th picture! What a milestone. :)

Happy 200th Oz!

We chose “Call & Answer” by Barenaked Ladies as our celebration song.

I think it’s getting to the point
Where I can be myself again
I think it’s getting to the point
Where we have almost made amends
I think it’s the getting to the point
That is the hardest part.

And if you call, I will answer
And if you fall, I’ll pick you up
And if you court this disaster
Ill point you home

You think I only think about you
When were both in the same room
You think I’m only here to witness
The remains of love exhumed
You think were here to play
A game of who loves more than whom

And if you call, I will answer
And if you fall, I’ll pick you up
And if you court this disaster
Ill point you home

You think it’s only fair to do what’s
Best for you and you alone
You think it’s only fair to do the same
To me when you’re not home
I think it’s time to make this something that is
More than only fair

So if you call, I will answer
And if you fall, I’ll pick you up
And if you court this disaster
Ill point you home.

But I’m warning you, don’t ever do
Those crazy, messed up things that you do
If you ever do
I promise you I’ll be the first to crucify you
Now it’s time to prove that you’ve come back
Here to rebuild.
